Banjo Newsletter, a beacon through the years since 1971.
Banjo Newsletter, a beacon through the years since 1971.

Donald Nitchie announced the end of Banjo Newsletter after September issue 575, soon after the passing of his brother Spencer. He was 57 years of age. This last issue will be available on the website, only in pdf file.

Born in 1971, Banjo Newsletter was a true beacon for banjo players around the world.

With this huge ressource of information, repertoire and technique, open to every subscriber for a very cheap price, the Nitchie family served the banjo and the music with constancy, first Hub Nitchie as the founder, then his sons Donald and Spencer who took over after their father's passing 1992.

Sadness of course for every Banjo Newsletter's lover, but gratefulnessfor all these years of music and life with our beloved instrument.

Donald and Spencer's approach is truly admirable and we can learn from it! It is even a model of generosity for all of us. And those in France who keep print or web publications alive are well aware of this. It's a lot of work.

The website for its part remains very active and editor-in-chief Callous Thumb will be sure to keep us informed of future developments. He is very grateful to the many loyal subscribers, contributors and advertisers, for their generous support over the years. Following Spencer's death, $ 40,000 has already been raised.
